Overview
If you're a registered veterinarian and you wish to be a microchip implanter in Victoria you must have the correct qualifications (if you are a University of Melbourne graduate, please refer to 'Further Details' below). This AVA course is your step closer to obtaining your qualification and is in accordance with the Domestic Animals Act 1994 and Domestic Animals Regulations 2015. As a registered veterinarian, once you complete the requirements of this course, you will be able to apply for your authorised implanter number (AIN) via one of the Victorian licensed Animal Registry Service providers. If you have relocated from Queensland to Victoria and you have an existing Queensland accreditation, you may qualify for recertification pricing (for AVA member's recertifying is free). Please contact the Victorian division for more information.

Who should attend
This course is for registered veterinarians only who practice in Victoria and are looking to receive their microchipping qualification to perform microchipping on dogs, cats and horses. If you are a University of Melbourne graduate, you can only gain access to your certificate of achievement in this course if you have completed the required practical implantations and AVA has received confirmation from the University of Melbourne.
Learning outcome
The Microchipping accreditation is for veterinarians only. It includes a module which contains a series of videos, plus an assessment which contains 15 multiple choice questions. Once you complete both and satisfy the requirements, you'll automatically and immediately have access to your Certificate of Achievement and the ability to download the 'Application for Recognition as a Qualitified Veterinary Microchip Implater' form. The completed form together with supporting documentation then needs to be sent to one of the Victorian licensed Animal Registry Services providers listed on the form.
If you are an AVA Member, 2 CPD points upon completion of the accreditation will be automatically updated in My CPD on the AVA website.
Further details
This accreditation is completed online via AVA's Learning Management System; My Learning. You will receive a confirmation email upon registration in this course, which will outline how to access the online materials. If you have any queries about this or any other matters relating to the Victorian Microchipping Accreditation, please contact the AVA Victorian Division Office.
NOTE: if you are a graduate student from the University of Melbourne you must successfully complete the required practical implantations and submit your evidence paperwork to the University of Melbourne, before you can gain access to your certificate of achievement. Completing the module and assessment in this course does not replace the requirement to complete the practical implantations. When confirmation is received from the University of Melbourne and the practical implantation records are processed by the AVA, you will receive an email from the AVA providing instructions on how to access this course and your certificate of achievement. If you have any questions about this requirement, please contact the University of Melbourne.
