Register your interest to assist with Bushfires for livestock and equine
17 Nov 2022Under the Victorian Emergency Animal Welfare Plan (established on recommendation of the Royal Commission of the Black Saturday Bushfires), the AVA is responsible for maintaining a database of veterinary volunteers for the purpose of supplying volunteers to government agencies if the need arises for assistance with bushfires or other animal emergencies. Learnings from bushfires earlier this year have been that early preparations for veterinary emergency workforce are beneficial.
During emergency incidents, Agriculture Victoria coordinate the response for companion animals, livestock and equine. This current survey allows for veterinarians with either LIVESTOCK or EQUINE experience (or both) to register their interest in assisting with the upcoming bushfire season in Victoria if the need arises.
Details supplied by you via registration will be shared with Agriculture Victoria to establish a pool of veterinarians to be called upon if required for coordination of training and resourcing emergency response incidents. Veterinarians will be remunerated by Agriculture Victoria for any deployment during an emergency incident.

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) coordinate the response for WILDLIFE. Please note that registration for veterinarians wishing to assist with wildlife response will be communicated to members once DELWP have finalised their arrangements.
